The Next Day…ish
Another Wednesday has passed and another raid is on the books. We made incremental tactical improvements and were able to net a couple of one-shots over last week. A couple wipes to the “bug boss” were an unwelcome addition to the mix. I kept things to just about (exactly) 2 hours and called it after one hit on Soa. I’d like to work that guy over a bit more as it’s a fairly complex fight, but the season is still early.
The raid team is slowly coming together. There was some clutch play by our assassin off-tank Volkaric on the first boss that brought us a win in a “yeah, we’re fucked” situation. I’ll have to make some tough choices next week in our staffing to accommodate some of our new 50s. We’ll be taking another poke at Karagga on Thursday which will give me the opportunity to give the folks with a bit more gear/seasoning a run while the very new folks can look for chances in EV. It’ll work out, for now…
I’m still uncertain how to approach the 16-player setups. If I factor in the folks in the high-40s right now we’ll be left with about 14 people total around February, so my gut says we need to recruit to fill now to hit our marks. There hasn’t been much (any) real attrition in the ranks, but raid sign-ups so far have been 10 or fewer. We’ve crossed the threshold into pay-time now, however, so that could change any day now.
The First Day
How time flies! It seems like only yesterday I was announcing our first guild 50…
Last night we mustered up for our first Eternity Vault raid with much rejoicing and phat epix. After a couple hours we managed to go 4/5, no small feat for a crew that hasn’t raided together (or at all!) in years. Special thanks to our healers for the evening Xebec and Valanov and our backup tank Volkaric for some damn fine clutch work outside their comfort zones. A weekend clean-up raid to knock down our last boss and next week’s run are already in the works.
- Annihilation Droid XRR-3 == dead.
- Gharj == dead.
- Pylons == pylonated.
- Infernal Council == dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, dead and dead!
- Soa == living on borrowed time.

In keeping with the symbolic ideas of change and renewal that go with the new year we here at Malevolence HQ would like to extend this invitation to those of you out there who may be looking for a new guild to call home. You can find all the details in this forum post.
The forums will always have our current “needs” list outlined, but don’t let that discourage you if you think we might be a good fit. I will caution any prospects out there that pure-DPS players will have a rough go with our current staffing situation.

Valanov dings 50; Sleep is for the weak.
Catapulting him into that coveted “most hated person in the guild” spot usually reserved exclusively for me on raid nights, ironman Valonov became our first player to hit 50 well into the wee hours of this morning. When reached for comment, he said: “zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”.
Congratulations, Valanov! I’m not even going to try and pronounce your surname, FYI.
tales from the dark side – part 1
A stone’s throw from 30 and I finally started making some real progress along the path to The Dark Side. With rank 3 comes the glorious “the Destructive” title and slightly more orange-y eyes and access to a few new baubles from the dark store. I’m into the real meat of the Marauder class now, with very few core abilities left undiscovered. Still, something seems amiss. A heroic 2+ quest early in the sequence of Tatooine was pretty much a cakewalk, despite being against even-con elite enemies. A couple levels and quests in the series later I was just WRECKED by 2 elites fairly identical to the earlier models. I think the rock-paper-scissors design school may have something to do with that experience. The major issue now is fighting with the UI as it actively tries to thwart the development of muscle memory/rotations.
Tatooine is the first truly expansive world I’ve landed on so far. Belmorra was “big”, but it never really felt big. Tatooine FEELS big.
Overall the game is a peach, warts and all. I’ve hunkered down into a bit of a routine with my space dailies/crew clean-up and knocking out a round or two of PvP before spending a couple hours questing. The storyline picked up considerably once I left Korriban, with each new phase drawing me more and more into my characters head.
Launch Madness
Head-start officially closed earlier today with the last pre-launch scheduled maintenance. The servers are expected to be up around 11CST, just in time to make their midnight 12/20 launch target. Happily enough my CE arrived on my doorstep after lunch today and I’ve already got my fancy little key FOB and code registered. No muss, no fuss. Just how it aught to be… It looks like the mobile app is still suspect, at least on iOS, so you’ll have to just wait it out if you aren’t inclined to CE it or order one from Origin.
The forums are humming right along. Todak is helping with some graphics here and there, which is always a help to photoshopaphobics like me. If you’ve been accepted into the live guild please drop by our forums and get an account rolling. Once we start moving into the larger-scale content it’s the go-to place for chatin’ about our biddness. This blog is still a work in progress, but as you can imagine we’re all pretty tied up with the actual game.
I’m actively seeking guildies to offer their perspectives on these pages. No commitments or anything, simply a place for you to ramble about your time in TOR and our guild. If you are interested drop me a note on the aforementioned forums and we’ll chat.

Valanov appears to have taken the early lead (the jerk) with a few of us just logging in to reserve our characters. Deployment!
That’s right kids, we’ve been officially deployed. It looks like we’ll be initially parked on Shii-Cho. There’s nothing specifically binding us to that server, but I’m of the opinion that one’s just as good as any other. We’ll see how the first day or two of head-start goes.
The roster breakdown from the pre-launch guild site is below. Looks like lots of Inquisitors. I’m sure that will have little bearing on the actual classes everyone ends up with given the opinions from turkey-beta!
